March 12, 2008 Local Youth Hockey Team earns spot to play for National Championship! In November, the Rhode Island Saints Midget Under 16 team earned the opportunity to represent New England in the prestigious USA Hockey National Championship Tournament to be held in Buffalo, NY. The team will be one of twelve teams from across the country vying for the honor of being a ?National Champion?.
The players on the team are from Rhode Island as well as one from Seekonk, Massachusetts. Participation in this tournament is considered the ultimate accomplishment in a youth hockey player?s career. The last time a Rhode Island team won this tournament was over 25 years ago.
As much as tournaments such as the USA National Championship provide the players with good times and memories, they also provide them with an opportunity to be part of a team working together towards a common goal. These young men are dedicated and hard working individuals who have earned this opportunity to participate at the highest level of youth hockey. An experience such as this will help create strong, independent, young men, we can all be proud of. The Rhode Island Amateur Hockey Association salutes these individuals for their accomplishments!
The National championships will be held in Buffalo, NY from April 2 through April 6, 2008. The estimated cost is nearly $25,000 to transport, lodge and feed the team while in Buffalo. If you would like to support the team, please contact:
